Here is what’s happening:
As my first year in Somerville comes to a close, I want to sincerely thank the school community for welcoming me with such warmth and support. I’m proud of all we’ve accomplished together and look forward to building on that momentum in the year ahead.
📚 Summer Announcements:
Two internal administrative transfers will take effect on July 1.
David Damaschke will become the Assistant Principal of Somerville Middle School.
Ryan Ure will transition from Supervisor of Student Affairs to Supervisor of Guidance at Somerville High School.
These moves support leadership continuity and align with our goals for student support and academic success.
We’re updating the referendum website to reflect the projects planned over the next three years.
These improvements will enhance learning environments across all schools in the district.
Expect regular updates and photos to keep you in the loop as work progresses.

🎯 Audit and State of the District Presentation Milestones
We're sharpening instruction, expanding interventions, and using data to guide district-wide progress:
VDV Team: Meeting regularly to analyze student performance and examine how goal setting impacts outcomes. Early findings are shaping goal alignment across grades.
Literacy Leaders: Evaluating current literacy practices and curriculum. Draft goals are in place. An upcoming meeting will finalize a shared vision and next steps.
ELL/ESL Updates: SEI consultants are helping standardize intake and calibrate screening. Training is underway to ensure consistency and equity.
Admin PD: Leaders are focused on the ESL/Bilingual Code and using the Stronge evaluation model to support instruction for ELLs.
Support Staff Training: CSTs, counselors, and interventionists are learning to differentiate between language acquisition delays and learning disabilities.
Data Work: Teams are analyzing assessment data, prepping for year-end transition, and conducting a districtwide data audit.
